Alert Labs Wins 2026 Digi Green Tech Award for Smart Sensing and Control

April 21, 2026

WATERLOO, ONTARIO — Alert Labs has been named a winner in the 2026 Digi International Green Tech Customer Innovation Awards, recognized in the Smart Sensing and Control category. Announced on April 16, 2026, and timed to Earth Day, the awards honour organizations using IoT technology to drive measurable environmental impact at scale.

Recognized for water and carbon impact across a large building portfolio

The Digi awards recognize connected solutions with measurable sustainability outcomes. Alert Labs was recognized for the impact its AlertAQ™ water intelligence platform and sensor fleet have had across commercial, industrial, and institutional buildings in North America.

To date, Alert Labs customers have:

  • Conserved more than 15 billion gallons of water
  • Prevented 163,000 metric tonnes of CO2e emissions
  • Saved over $150 million in water costs
  • Protected 14,000+ buildings

The water-energy link matters here. Moving, heating, and treating water consumes significant energy, so every gallon a building doesn't waste is also carbon a utility doesn't have to emit. For a deeper look at that relationship, see our post on the water-energy nexus.

A word from our CEO

"Winning the Digi Green Tech Award in Smart Sensing and Control is a real honor, and it belongs to our customers as much as to our team," said Bob Wasserman, CEO of Alert Labs. "Every gallon of water they've conserved and every tonne of CO2e they've prevented shows what happens when you put reliable IoT in the hands of building teams who are focused on making a difference. We're grateful to Digi for the recognition."

About the Digi Green Tech Awards

The Digi Green Tech Customer Innovation Awards are now in their sixth year. The program recognizes companies using Digi technology to deliver scalable environmental outcomes across five categories: Precision Agriculture, Smart Lighting, Smart Sensing and Control, Smart Metering, and Smart Water Management.

This year's other winners include Hexagon (Precision Agriculture), RAB Lighting (Smart Lighting), XiO Water (Smart Water Management), and Radius (Smart Metering).

Alert Labs Sensor Relay, the cellular communication hub that connects our flood, flow, temperature, and humidity sensors to the AlertAQ™ platform, which leverages leverages Particle by Digi technology. That partnership is part of why Alert Labs systems can be deployed across large portfolios without depending on building WiFi or existing wired networks, a detail that matters in mechanical rooms, basements, and pre-occupancy construction sites where other connectivity options fall short.

Why this matters for building owners and operators

Most water loss in commercial buildings is invisible until it's expensive. A running toilet, a failed fitting, a slow leak in a riser, a supply line that bursts in a vacant suite on a Saturday night — these are the events that erode NOI, drive insurance premiums higher, and displace tenants.

What the Digi award recognizes is that catching these events early, consistently, across hundreds or thousands of buildings, is what actually moves sustainability numbers. It isn't one clever sensor. It's a platform that works reliably everywhere, alerts the right people, and creates an auditable record of what was saved.

That's the work. The award is a nice marker of the progress, but the goal has always been the buildings.
